SMS networks split longer texts into pieces called segments. Neopolis bills SMS by the segment.
Standard text (GSM-7)Up to 160 characters = 1 segmentLong messages: about 153 characters per segment
Unicode / emojiUp to 70 characters = 1 segmentLong messages: about 67 characters per segment
Example: a 200-character standard SMS is normally 2 segments. Emoji or special Unicode characters can change the encoding and increase the segment count.
Neopolis calculates the segment count before sending so the message can be priced against the customer's prepaid balance.
